It was the long hot summer of 1961, before air conditioning in home or car. Mom's ankles were swollen and her nerves a wee bit frayed. She was seven months pregnant with her sixth child, and needed to cool off, so she was franticly rummaging through the attic closet for a bathing suit that would fit. Lucky for us she found an old pink swim from a few years back. Sure enough, it did fit. So off we went for a long drive and a short dip in the cold waters of the Maine coastline. When we arrived, Mom was the first one in, and three girls followed despite the fact that our feet turned red, then blue, then numb, all in the first three minutes. We all giggled and shrieked while Dad grabbed the camera. Mom's response was to grab us so we could hide her shape. Sometime after the circulation stoppped in my right leg, I remember Mom saying, "I think the baby likes the cold. I feel some kicking. Apparently it was true, because Anne Barbara Fenner was born on a chilly day in Ocober.
GOAL: Create a photo moment by combining 2 or 3 photos and your memories of the event.
Step One: Choose several photos and practise putting them next to each other to see which ones match. Mail or scan the photos to us.
Step Two: Write down your memory of the event, or describe it by phone. Don't worry about spelling or the length of what you have to say. We can help with editting and story development.
Step Three: Choose a matt color and a font. Then leave the rest to us. Photos and stories will be matted together for framing.
